West African Dance Class
West African Dance Class taught by Karim Koumbassa, Master Drummer and Dancer from Guinea West Africa
Karim Koumbassa, Master Drummer, Dancer, Choreographer, Director and Instrument Maker from Guinea West Africa, has worked extensively with some of the best and most renowned artists from his country such as Famadou Konate, Mamady Keita, and Youssouf Koumbassa. Before coming to the United States, Karim was the Artistic Director and Choreographer of the performance company Oiseaux Blanc. He has performed with many other professional ballets in Guinea, namely Les Merveilles de Guinee, Ballets Taille, Wassa So, Kounkouri, and Samato.
His immense love and appreciation for African Culture drives Karim to be an amazing teacher and performer. As a musician, Karim brings an understanding of the music to his dance classes that supports students to really understand the connection between the rhythm and movement, making it a fun and comprehensive experience for all!
Come join this fun, high energy West African Dance class! Karim Koumbassa will break down the choreography for this traditional dance in a way that is easy to follow. The class includes live drumming and a whole lot of fun!
The class costs $14 for one session, or both Wednesdays for $25.
